Sad, sad, day! Dad held it together well for his sister’s funeral this morning but my Aunt Edna (his other sister) didn’t hold it together as well. Their brother passed away in February and the last 5 years or so have been brutal. Let’s see for my side: Aunt Violet, my brother Ron, Uncle Gil, Uncle Ken, Aunt Arlene, Aunt Toodie, cousin Dennis Sheehan, Uncle Donnie – so including Aunt Pauline that’s nine. For my hubby’s side: his Grandpa and Grandma Rolfson and sister in law Erin. I’m tired of funerals. I can only imagine if I feel that way how my parents must feel…

I do have one actually funny story from the funeral. Pauline had been baptized but was not an active member of the Mormon church. Her kids and hubby had never been baptized. They agreed that Dad could dedicate the grave. When he finished, he said the minister came up to him afterward and said, “I like that part about the Melchizidek Priesthood.” I asked Dad if he explained authority through the restored gospel to him and he said he did not. Now I’m afraid the minister will just put use that phrase whenever he likes. Yikes!

Blurry pic. I know. I obviously didn’t take it and it’s the only one we got of all of us! So my sister has been spoiling us with tickets to cultural and sporting events and we went to the Rose Theater downtown to see The Wizard of Oz with the kids and the elaborate show is normally 160 minutes with a 20 minute intermission. Part way through the first half the fire alarms went off and we were asked to evacuate. Lots of kids. Crazy. Cast and pit also evacuated. Fire department comes. Building cleared. Find our seat. Lots of kids (again). Just before intermission it happened again which put the end of the show near 11 p.m. so we bailed at intermission and went to Jimmy John’s for sandwiches and tried to get some genealogy copied at Kinko’s (another post – beware – it’s not friendly; let’s just say Donnie ran from the store to avoid the altercation and embarrassment). With the storms at Rosenblatt last weekend and the fire alarms at the Rose Theater…we’re not going to have much to do with any roses anymore. Certainly not even considering any town with rose in the name in Georgia! We don’t want to curse ourselves…

Okay, I’ll admit that don’t really know anything about baseball (really). Lili & Ron took us to an Omaha Royals game at Rosenblatt Stadium (you know, where they hold the College World Series). We were super excited to go since Omaha is tearing it down and the land will go to the zoo and it would probably be the last time our kids could visit the historic place. Ron informed us that the game was all about eating unhealthy snacks every 3 innings so we lived up to it: cotton candy, sunflower seeds, hot dogs, soda, dippin’ dots. I’m surprised nobody threw up! We left after the 4th inning due to a delay of game (thundershowers) but we had a really, really good time – THANKS, Ron & Lili, for a great night out for the whole family! What a treat!
